Brini becomes a Bulldog

Fireworks went off a day early for Georgia’s football program as cornerback Latavious Brini (Hialeah Gardens, Fl./Mater Academy) decided to end his recruitment and commit to the Bulldogs late Sunday night.

The three-star prospect originally planned to announce his commitment on July 31, but decided he couldn’t wait any longer.

“I just wanted to get it out of the way,” Brini said. “I was really feeling Georgia, and I just wanted to get it over with. I just came to the decision today. My family told me if I really liked the school, then go ahead and do it.”

Brini spoke with head coach Kirby Smart and wide receivers coach James Coley tonight to give them the good news.

“They were fired up,” Brini said. “I talked to Coach Smart and Coach Coley. I’ll probably talk to Coach [Mel] Tucker in the morning.”

The coaches played a big part in Brini’s decision, but there was more to it.

“It was the coaches, and Athens,” Brini said. “Athens is great, and the coaches showed me a lot of love. There coaches there were just truthful about everything they said. They have great experience. Coach [Mel] Tucker coached in the NFL for a while. Coach Smart coached at Alabama and had some great defenses there. It’s a great place.”

Georgia’s depth chart in the defensive backfield also appealed to Brini.

“They said I have a great chance of playing right away and they see me only as a cornerback,” Brini said.

In total, Brini received offers from 30 FBS programs before his decision. The No. 38 ranked cornerback in the nation also strongly considered Notre Dame, North Carolina, UCF, USC and Miami.
