Carter picks Dawgs over Tide

Michail Carter had long been thought to be a Georgia lean but after the firing of Mark Richt, that notion was suddenly up in the air.

But after new coach Kirby Smart announced he would be keeping defensive line coach Tracy Rocker that was just the assurance needed by Carter, who signed with the Bulldogs during a ceremony at his school.

"Keeping Rocker was really huge. I spend most of my time with the strength and conditioning coach and my position coach. I do know Smart very well but I do know that majority of the time I will not be with him. I am just happy that coach Rocker stayed."

"They think I am athletic for my size. I can move in and out. The position they see me at is the 3 technique and the 5 technique."

Carter’s decision is another huge pickup for Georgia, which was determined to rebuild its defensive line with this year’s recruiting class.

"Well when I went on my official visit to Georgia I got to basically see all the coaching staff. I have known Kirby and Coach Rocker basically since I was a pup in the 9th grade so I have a great relationship with them and I trusted them that they would take care of me and push me to be the best that I can be."

A four-star performer, Carter took part in this year’s Under Armour All-American game. He chose the Bulldogs over Alabama after eliminating Clemson on Monday.

"I really came close to choosing Alabama. I really did mainly because of Bo Davis," Carter said. "I made up my mind yesterday. I called Kirby and he was on the road. He was excited, he told me this call was going to make him crash he was so excited."
