Dawgs-Heels “Points” of Pride

I know, there’s more than 100 days until Georgia opens its 2016 season in Atlanta against North Carolina. However, when I saw a few days ago that 5dimes had released early lines (check the “College” box in left column for lines to be revealed) for 15 or so opening week games, including favoring the Bulldogs by 4½ points over the Tar Heels, I couldn’t help for my point-spread juices to already start flowing. Therefore, like I posted last fall during most game weeks, presented is “Point Spread Thursday” for the season opener.

Besides the fact, it was more like—if I recall correctly—“Point Spread Tuesday” last season, there is a slight issue: Georgia and North Carolina haven’t met since the 1971 Gator Bowl, and not on a somewhat consistent basis since the mid-1960s. Regardless, to me, an old point spread—although, not really all that relevant—is a historical point spread. So, for what it’s worth, I dug deep and discovered the UGA-UNC results—both on-field and against the number—beginning in 1950:

Spot a trend?

How about (and, really the only reason I posted to begin with), when facing the Tar Heels, not only have the Bulldogs delivered via the scoreboard but via the spread, as well—like 9-1-1 straight-up and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 meetings… With that being said, here’s to the Kirby Smart era getting off to a good start by going “old school” with an easy Georgia win… and cover.
