Michel breaks arm during off-field incident

Just what Georgia did not need to happen with the start of fall camp just about a month away – an injury to one of its running backs.

Unfortunately, that that is the case after Georgia officials confirmed in an email to beat writers that Sony Michel suffered a fractured left forearm during an accident Sunday evening.

He underwent successful surgery Monday morning at Athens Regional Medical Center Monday morning and according to Sr. Associate Director for Sports Medicine Ron Courson, a full recovery is expected, although no timetable was given.

Although school officials failed to divulge any more details, sources tell UGASports.com that the accident came as the result of an accident on an ATV.

The news comes at a poor time for the Bulldogs, who relied heavily on Michel last year when Nick Chubb went down with a knee injury against Tennessee and responded by rushing 219 times for 1,161 yards with eight touchdowns.

As for Chubb, indications are that the junior is making great progress in his recovery, although head coach Kirby Smart has not given any details pertaining to when he will actually be cleared to begin practice.

If Michel is out for any length of time, that would mean more work for senior Brendan Douglas, along with sophomore Shaquille Wilson, redshirt freshman Tae Crowder, along with freshmen Brian Herrien and Elijah Holyfield.
