Smart says Chubb will be ready to get to work once fall camp begins

ATLANTA – Kirby Smart said that running back Nick Chubb is expected to be able to take part in most of Georgia’s drills when the Bulldogs kick off fall camp next Monday.

Of course, it’s still to be determined when the junior will be allowed to put on the full pads in order to take part in his first contact since his knee injury took place last October at Tennessee.

“He’s back to his normal self when it comes to running, cutting,” Smart said. “But he hasn’t put the pads on, he hasn’t taken a hit, he hasn’t taken that knee brace off yet so there are a lot of hurdles when it comes to that with Nick gaining confidence.”

As for fellow running back Sony Michel, Smart said the junior continues to rehab after suffering an open fracture to his forearm following an ATV accident last month.

“Sony is rehabbing hard, trying to get back out there and is limited probably more than Nick right now where Nick is doing everything he can,” Smart said. “Certainly, with Sony, it will be a week-by-week progress.”

For those wondering, it remains unclear whether either will be available for the Bulldogs in the opener against North Carolina and Smart still isn’t making any predictions.

“That’s yet to be determined and it’s going to stay that way for quite a while until we get through at least the first or second scrimmage,” Smart said.
