Georgia wide receiver recruiting Cheat Sheet

With James Coley taking over as the wide receivers coach for the University of Georgia, it should come as no surprise to anyone that the Bulldogs are on the right track when it comes to recruiting. Coley is known as a strong rrecruiter and has already seen a lot of success.

With that in mind, here is how the wide receiver board is looking currently, and what players could potentially help finish off the 2017 class.

COMMITED

Trey Blount- Blount seems to be the ‘Top Dawg’ if you will for the wide receiver group, and he seems like the perfect candidate for the role. Blount hails from PACE Academy in Atlanta and was a major factor in helping the Bulldogs land his four-star teammate, Andrew Thomas. Blount’s combine numbers at The Opening didn’t exactly wow those in attendance like Jeremiah Holloman's did, but those numbers do not tell the whole story. Blount is gifted in the area of being able to run routes which comes from his high football IQ. Blount is also a guy that seems to have better game speed than his forty-yard dash would indicate, and he looked very good at the Rivals Camp this year in Atlanta, taking home the wide receiver MVP award.

Matthew Landers- Landers is the unknown commodity for the class, so far at least, but could turn out to be a low-risk, high-reward type player. Landers is a legit 6-foot-3 or taller and has an above average wingspan for someone his height. Landers’ senior season could show that Georgia was in before the hype.

TOP PROSPECTS:

Jeremiah Holloman- The 6-foot-3, 190-pound wide receiver from Newton County High School is quite impressive. Holloman opened the eyes with his extremely high numbers at The Opening ecently and will continue to impress this season on the field. Holloman could be the missing piece for the wide receivers group for 2017. He has almost everything you would want in a wide receiver. Georgia’s biggest competition for Holloman’s services seems to be Tennessee, but his recruitment has blown up lately and now it seems that Holloman wants to take his time with everything. If Georgia were able to nab a commitment from Holloman and team him up with the commits already on board, along with Mark Webb, I think it would safe that say that Coley will have put together a strong first class.

Mark Webb- It is not often that we talk about a prospect from the state of Pennsylvania making his way down south to play football for the University of Georgia, but that might just be the case with Webb. Webb is basically the same size as Holloman and Blount, checking in at 6-foot-2, 193 pounds, but he brings a different type of skill set to the table. Webb has the best hands out of anyone in this article, in my opinion, but is also sneaky fast. Georgia will have to try and hold off Penn State and Alabama if they want to land Webb, but as of right now, The Bulldogs appear to be in good position to do so.

POSSIBLE PROSPECTS:

Corey Reed- Reed is a guy that we've enjoyed watching for a while now, and after reports came out that Coley visited Roswell in the evaluation period, it seems that Coley agrees that Reed is someone to watch. Georgia has indicated that it wants to take four wide receivers and if they are able to land the two top-tier prospects above, Reed might be an odd man out. But, there is no doubt in my mind that Reed could suit up and play in the SEC. His senior season tape will be important, especially if Reed is wanting some of the top coaches in the Southeast to come knocking at his door in December. As it stands today, Louisville seems to be the leader for Reed.

Justin Marshall- Marshall recently transferred to Newton High School and will be lining up opposite of Holloman, and that is a scary thought if you are an opposing defensive coordinator. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound wide receiver is currently interested in Louisville and South Carolina, but he does hold an offer from Georgia. I would not be surprised at all if/when Coley visits to watch Holloman that he comes away almost as impressed with Marshall. They both have almost the exact same height and weight and play the position well. If Georgia feels like Webb might be slipping away or that Landers isn’t necessarily playing up to the level they thought he would, don’t be surprised to see Marshall’s name pop up often.

ALWAYS A SPOT OPEN

Nico Collins- If Georgia were to get their top four on their board and Collins decided that he wanted to be a Dawg, well, the Bulldogs would have five wide receiver commits. With Collins, the Dawgs were trending early on in his recruitment; especially after it came to light that Collins did not prefer to stay in the state of Alabama. Now, Michigan looks to be taking the lead in his recruitment, but Coley still has time to get back in it, as Collins does not expect to announce immediately. It will take some work, but if the Georgia coaching staff are able to get Collins back on campus for an official visits and sprinkle in some unofficial visits, they could find themselves with one of the best receivers the Class of 2017 has to offer.
